Wallsend to Baldersby route advice

I'd rather not chance my life on the A19 so was wondering if anyone had an idea about an appropriate route for a ride I'd like to attempt?

If there's not something reasonable, I could get the train to Northallerton and set off from there, which is a route I vaguely know.
