Seriously though, we braved the mist and drizzle and even though the wonderful cafe in Downham was closed we had an enjoyable ride and stopped at Fell Bikes for coffee and cakes and fingered some expensive kit. It was nice not to be freezing cold.

Same here - nice to ditch thermal tights and get back to shorts and just a long sleeved jersey.

Blimey it wasn't that warm around here, although it was dry(ish)
I had compression layer, Merino layer, arm warmers, cycling jersey and Roubaix jersey over a pair of Roubaix bib tights plus Sealskins socks and overshoes, plus my Polaris gloves, a buff and a skull cap - and it was just about right.

Warm here yesterday and today. I took my 'all road' bike out for a 30 mile shakedown.

Thin Mavic long sleeve base, thin long sleeve Pearl Izumi jersey, matching 3/4 nicks, a thin windproof jacket as I knew I was going to get muddy and Mavic short finger gloves. My one concession to the time of year was a pair of Seaskin waterproof sock... toasty feet inside my Sidi shoes.

I was toasty warm the whole ride and if it were not for the mud I could have easily lived without the jacket.

Don't you find all that time scraping ice off and demisting means it takes so much longer in winter?

Knew someone would post up about studded tyres . Really not worth the hassle and extra expense for me imo . A few years back I would cycle in all sorts studs or not but when conditions are bad underfoot it ain't worth it trust me!
