A few years ago a friend of mine, when I told him I had a few watches asked my why I had so many? After I explained, he said to me, a man with one watch will always know the time, a man with two watches will never be quite sure.

The bastard.

Soooo, if you won the gazillions on the lottery, would you have one of those featured in the video?

If I could design it myself then possibly.
I absolutely hate chunky big watches, they look awful IMHO, which is also why I like the thin understated look of a lot of Mondaines', particularly the Swiss Railway ones.

By the way, I have just checked, the clock on my iPad isn't a Mondaine face (as far as I know anyway).

So what makes one worth the 100's of thousands that are asked for them ?

My Triban 3 does the same job as a Bianchi Oltre XR Dura Ace Di2..............................but the average bloke will only see 2 bicycles. Better technology, better fit & finish, higher quality parts, intrinsic value, perceived value, residuals, marketing etc etc.

Currently I only have 5 Mondaines', 3 wrist watches, a pocket watch and the wall clock, but that is enough at the moment. I also have a Coffee Cup and saucer originally used for promotional purposes and kindly given to me afterwards.

My parents have 2 or 3 wrist watches between them too.

So do things like this upset you traditionalists or do you embrace the technology that seems to be creeping more and more in to the watch market ?? http://the-gadgeteer.com/2011/06/06/im-watch-android/
.

I can remember the first digital watches when I was at school and then the predicted death of the Swiss watch industry, 30+ years later it's now stronger than ever, this sort of thing poses zero threat.

The only threat I can think of, to the continued success of aspriational mechanical wristwatches, is that young kids, in general, use their phones for time keeping. They may never get into the habit of wearing a watch.

The Atlantic is my picture is 30 years old, it runs like new and is worth a lot more than it was new. I expect it'll run, with a couple of services, for another 30 years, I wonder what use a 30 year old Samsung phone/watch will be?

Agree there totally even phones nowadays only seem to have a life expectancy of 2 years before the software or whatever is out of date so i dont suppose these new watches will fair any differently.

I remember back in the day to be proud as punch to have a Casio that was waterproof up to 100 meters. Although i never got the chance to try out the claim at my local swimming baths.
