Finding small off-road tracks on a mtb through woodland etc GPS navigation is brilliant, plus you can follow a pre-planned route without having to stop and look at the map

Of course it's entirely possible to navigate without a GPS. Most of us have done it by bike, on foot, by car for decades. Some more decades than others.
Personally, I don't want to go back to those ways. I love my GPS/satnav. But there's no denying that paper map navigation worked ok (ish). Other people, as you would expect, take a different view and have stuck with what they know. Which is fair enough.

Not off-road they're not, most aren't even shown on "maps" the detail on the specialist navigation apps these days is terrific and very accurate

Yes off road it is easy if you are on bridleway and byways etc. Come on it is not hard. I was doing it as an 10 year old, it’s that hard to learn.

Better in terms of battery life, yes.
Better in that your phone can be tucked away somewhere safe.
Negatives : small screen, slow processor, sh***y upload speeds (hello Garmin), and software that is often flawed/unreliable/lacking, and is rarely updated. I don't love my bike computer, i tolerate it.
Am sure i saw there was at least one android-based bike computer... Would be interesting, as i could try different navigation apps. Or write my own.

Yes and what happens if you are out on the mountains and something happens to your phone and you haven't got or map or cant map read? You're in the x if its bad weather/winter/ night time etc. Mountain Rescue carry loads of corpses off the fells every year.

Press side button 3 times (quickly) then "End"
Then Settings>Accessibility>Guided access>toggle off
