I have found out what the alert will say should any of the Worlds Leaders/Grifters/Ne'er do Wells hit the big red button, it reads
1-Paint yourself white, both emulsion or whitewash will suffice.
2-hide under a table/hedge/garden wall.
3- stick your head between your legs & kiss your backside goodbye
4- Await a large bright flash

You can't disable these ones. Or at least I thought you weren't supposed to be able to.

I didn't hear anything, but I often don't hear my phone ringing if I'm on the bike and it's windy (as it was on the way home today). But when I next looked at my phone, I'd obviously received it because the message was on screen.

Yes you can.
In settings, notifications, there are in advanced settings wireless emergency alerts that can be disabled so you don't get it.
Why you wouldn't want to get an emergency alerts baffles me, but there you go.

Disabled on the current handset before I'd even put the SIM card in it.
Easy enough do, and a few have said how to disable them.

I was watching TV coverage of the racing from York. They delayed the start of the 3:00 till after the alert, the sound of which brought laughter from the thousands of spectators who were all holding their phones up.
