I only ever watch Wimbledon if a Brit is in the finals.

You were about in 1938 for the last one were you then?

For the record, I absolutely HATE Wimbledon with a passion, and quite honestly, I dislike both Murray and Federer, but at least it has got remotely interesting now.

And as I said, I'd support the guy even if he was Irish, because to me, it is a bit like being an honoury Brit, even if people dislike that notion. Hell, I even found myself suddenly routing for that Japanese guy in the TDf the other day there! (Not that he'd be a Brit though).

If he developed a bit of humility and grace, then I'm sure his fan club would increase ten-fold.

I don't doubt his ability, but in the same way with Tiger Woods and his gestures and behaviour on a golf course, it leaves a lot to be desired and doesn't make for pleasant viewing.
Yes, talent being secondary to successful marketing means we can choose our brand of sportsman. If he's humble and full of grace, then him coming 23rd won't make a tit's worth of difference because, after all, (wipes away tear of emotion) being BRITISH is all that matters.

That's right, if you go for public image you end up with Eddie The Eagle, Frank Bruno and David Beckham. I'd much rather watch a class competitor who didn't give a fcuk what people thought of him.
Agree. Fcuk the begrudgers!

Perhaps if he wins the miserable fecker might cheer up a bit? tennis marginally less tedious than golf.

Perhaps he's so 'miserable' because of an incident that occurred when he was a small child? He was in his school one day, you may remember this one, when a man walked in armed with several guns and began killing the school's children. Maybe if that hadn't happened, the horrific trauma wouldn't have made him such a 'miserable fecker'?

He keeps the meaning of his pointing to the sky to himself but it just may be he's dedicating his victories to his school friends who were blown away by an evil killer before they reached ten years old?

I dont get the Murray arrogant etc - single minded perhaps - high self belief perhaps (you dont get to be number 4 in the world without it) - OK he cant do the emotionless mask thing of a lot of the players but in some ways I quite like that - it shows he cares - has a passion for it - he is a top class tennis player playing often at at the extremes of his ability who during matches goes through emotions on a regular basis most of us also rans never experience. In telly ive seen of him away from the court he comes across as being a relaxed guy with a good sense of humour and a self depreciating attitude - I would happily sit down and have a pint with him.

Good luck to him - whilst personally I think that Federer has the beating of him - I can only hope that on the day he can raise his game and win - Not for Scotland, England or Britain but himself - he deserves it.

Glasgow Brr ..
we are talking about a guy who is nearly up there with the best ever in history.. yet we rubbish him because of a few facial expressions, without ever fully understanding what it is like to be playing at that level, at that age, in a sport where there is nowhere to hide (unlike a team sport). Intense sport can bring worst out in you.

I do agree some players are a bit more pleasant to watch .. but from a tennis perspective he is brilliant, and completely dedicated and professional (unlike numerous other UK sporting 'heros').

As someone said - off court he is a decent, balanced guy (albeit a bit dour)with a good sense of humour.

Do we really want all our sporting hero's to be middle/upper class Henmans? NO!

Cm'on Andy. Bring it home! Or at least 1 set this time..
