Thanks for the memory jogger...Since downloading Windows 10 my laptop can't find my scanner, but prints ok. The printer/scanner is combined![]()
I have it on good authority (Paul Thurrott again) that Windows 10 is free for life as long as you're reinstalling on the machine you upgraded on. MS are free to change that of course. No such thing as a free lunch - looking forward to the howls of protest that will come from the users of MS's brave new 'charge for Windows' policy.
Already started (albeit low-key) with charge for eg Windows DVD player plus re-installs will be chargeable for those who have already upgraded but for whatever reason need to reload the OS.

Bottom line though, if they start charging for too much people will leave. If MS released versions of Visual Studio and Office for Linux (VS Code is available for Linux right now) then they could drop Windows completely and maybe release a MS Linux. Could this be the long term plan?
The question was rhetorical really.Don't know to answer your question.
Moot point is that MS are shifting to a drip, drip, drip business model. Quietly sucking up lots of small amounts of money that composite to an absolute fortune.
Customers will be sucked in to pay per month with little 'oh it's only another £1.99/month' add-ons a-la Sky, BT etc
I read somewhere that that staple of Windows; solitaire is to become chargeable. Laughable really.

Every time I see a new Windows OS I wonder what all the fuss is about. They always (tiled 8 notwithstanding) look pretty much the same to me - and even then 8 was the same under the surface as far as I am concerned.
Cortana doesn't float my boat - if I need to know if I need an umbrella I can look outside and as for four snap-screens or whatever they are called well whoopy-do.
Windows 10 is being discussed in this thread![]()
