Somebody designed a route where there was a possibility that the peloton would get hit by a speeding train? :eek:
Train times are taken into account when planning the event. I read somewhere that the start was delayed by 10 min, but still the tailwind was sufficiently strong that the peloton arrived well ahead of schedule.

I wonder what the margin of error is? I'm also not sure that action should be taken against individual riders. A peloton acts as a single unit, you can't just stop half of it.

As a train driver, you may well see the riders crossing in front of you as you approach the crossing. the signals will be interlocked the the gates so, as the gates go down the signals turn green in front of the train telling the driver it is safe to to continue.To see riders crossing in front of you may well be classified as a near miss, and i would expect the railway company to complain to to organisers about the conduct of the riders.
