What sort of bicycle/cycle do they ride!
Ones fitted with cow horns, :okay: or old pro bikes from the milk race!
 
My bell has one of those spinny things inside - it works perfectly OK when wet but is a little bit quieter - some of the treble is missing but not much

personally I prefer them because
a) people seem to hear them more easily than a single ping
b) people associate them with bikes more easily - especially old people
c) they were the only ones I knew about when I was growing up - so they seem 'right' to me

I'm definitely a fan of the traditional ding doing bell. The sound seems to travel further and gets a better response from pedestrians.

I like to think the forlorn, dull, apathetic report of a waterlogged bell suggests the rider's usually-chirpy little handlebar mounted companion is equally as non-plussed about the weather as the rider :tongue:
