My wife took me to see that. Worst date-night ever. I am not a fan of misery.

To say I enjoyed it is an understatement. I could scarcely put it down to the extent I was opting to rail commute rather than accept lifts from colleagues so I could carry on reading it!
Thanks for your reply, I'll race through the final pages of my current book and hopefully start it tomorrow.

The literary device it employs is very clever and the translator has done a great job.

There are four or five other words of WWII fiction referenced in it, and some non-fiction to which I've determined to work my way through, hence The Kindly Ones.

I am reading How Not To Be A Professional Footballer by Paul Merson (which I don't actually want to read, but was foisted on me by a friend) and A Diary of a Nobody (which is not as good as I thought it would be).

Josie Dew, slow coast home. It the first of her long line of cycling / touring books I've read and I'm really enjoying it. Might buy the rest when I've finished this one.

A Diary of a Nobody (which is not as good as I thought it would be).

I was disappointed by that too.
I read it a couple of years ago after hearing a radio series, The Eliza Stories. I thought the series was based on Diary of a Nobody.
IT wasn't, it was based on The Eliza Stories by Barry Pain. A very similar theme though. (pompous husband who is desperate to move up in the world)
The radio series was full of laugh out loud moments. Fantastic listening. Eliza's husband played by Mark Heap had the voice and character perfectly.
I've not read The Eliza Stories but maybe I will.
