Made a start on August 1914 by Solzhenitsyn, bloody hard work unlike most of his other books that I loved. Vry unlike me I had to give up on it but will go back to it sometime. About to start on A Captain's Duty (about the captain of a ship that gets hijacked)

Have you read Amis' "Time's Arrow"?

I've not read it or even heard of it. I'll Google it though and have a look. I assume it's Holocaust related?

Yes. It's rather good. Dark comedy though.

I am reading fiction on my Nook. At the moment I am re-reading my favourite book by my favourite author, Testament by David Morrell. David Morrell is the author of First Blood, the story of Rambo and far superior to the film. I recently came by 30 books by Morrell in Epub format for my Nook so should keep me quiet for a while working through that lot.

I lived next door to Summerhill for three years and many of the kids there were arrogant, rude and pig ignorant. That's the result of having few boundaries and even less discipline.

I had the same experience with August 1914. Got bogged down in the battle dscriptions and gave up.

Wow. I am envious. Your pick of Uncle Fred in the Springtime clearly comes from much experience! Wodehouse was such a superb writer. Great sense of comic timing and his use of the English language was second to none.

Those two shelves also carry a lot of Twain, who is another big favourite. I still do all my reading on Kindle but I really dearly love old books.

Our bookshelves would appear to have a lot in common. I have been a huge Mark Twain fan all my life.
