I'm going to stick with using Liquid Soap Flakes. Pure and simple. First time I washed by bike after having an hot water outside tap fitted. Made bike cleaning a much more pleasant experience in the cold weather. Highly recommend if you're also into detailing like me.

All the talk of brake dust on rims in this thread is very quaint.
Another advantage of discs is rims that clean easily with soapy water.

I clean all the rims on my many rim braked bikes with soapy water.
What do you imagine we use?
Flame throwers?
By the by (I don't know - don't have a disc bike, may never have one) - do you need to clean the discs with anything?

Lots of posts about isopropyl alcohol for rim cleaning on rim braked bikes.
Disc rotors don't need any special treatment.
An oily film is no good for them, but a swift blast along a gravel path soon sees to that.
Mountain bikers have been known to deliberately smear rotors with gritty mud to 'clean' them - restore their natural abrasiveness.
