I figured (after reading it once) you can drive a manual car (or van in this case) without using the clutch.
Start with just the right amount of throttle and in 1st gear, you can pull away with no clutch. Just the right revs, you can change gear.
I once drove from Peterborough to the outskirts of London without touching the clutch onceWould you buy a used car from me ?
I once did that on a motorbike, no electric start so kick it off in the middle of the road and roll down the camber on tick over and drop it into bottom. Then just get the revs right as you change gear.
It wasn't something I did by choice I did it because the clutch cable was frozen solid, so all of the above on fresh snow.
I tried it in a car (A Morris Minor) after the clutch thrust plate went and started by putting it in bottom with the engine off and let the starter pull it away and start the engine at the same time. Perfectly possible so long as you need to be where you are going more than you care about the car.
