What do you remember being invented?

I thought skateboards in the 70s. They were such a craze - we couldn't afford them so we made our own using a bit of wood and a dismantled roller-skate, they worked well too. Anyway I looked them up and it looks like they've been around a lot longer.

I remember James Burke on Tomorrows World showing a car where the engine turned off automatically when the car was stationary and restarting when the accelerator was pressed. Only just taking off 40 years later.

It's surprising how many things do take years between invention and taking off. For instance I'll bet growingvegetables wasn't really around in the late 19th century when the dishwasher was invented.
