Watched this night, Havoc on Netflix. A well named violent B-movie with a good cast playing their parts well but the body counts detracts from the plot.

I saw a poster for this the other day and was instantly put off by Tom Hardy, who I just don't get in most things - he's incredibly one dimensional. Then I found out it's directed by Gareth Evans who did the excellent Raid and Apostle films so I'm more interested. Although he did do Gangs of London too which is awful, so I guess it could go either way when I get to it, because tonight is going to be Marching Powder!

Based on the above, could go either way.

I want to watch that but I'll wait for your review now.

I almost started it this afternoon until I found out that it's almost two hours long, so struggling with the thought of Danny Dyer playing Danny Dyer for nearly two hours I watched the snooker instead.

It's only just over 90 minutes, but yeah, it's Danny Dyer being Danny Dyer for those minutes so if you don't like him, you won't like this.

As for the film itself - 6/10

It's basically a follow on from Football Factory and has a lot of the same elements, only 20 years on. The message is nothing new, but there are some genuinely funny and touching moments if you can get past the laddish bravado that smothers the film.

Last Voyage of the Demeter. Bit like "Snakes on a Plane" but "Vampire on a Boat" - Pants (IMO). Lost interest and started browsing while the film continued so don't remember the ending. Not a good idea for a parasite to kill all the hosts at sea, if you don't make it to shore you're f*****.

It shows as having a running time of 1:56:00 on my firestick, 90 minutes sounds a bit more bearable. 😂

Definitely only 1:36.
Sounds like 20 minutes of ads. Just as thought...

Finished watching Shoah (available on iPlayer) today. 566 harrowing minutes, so one to take in chunks. I had read and watched much about the Holocaust before, but this still taught me a lot, in extraordinary, horrifying detail.

The Doors. I have it on VHS so have seen it a few times but first watch this century. Val Kilmer and Meg Ryan are excellent but the film is self indulgent pretentiousness. Not sure if that’s down to the director or subject.
Biopics are generally just that, regardless of the directors pedigree. I saw The Doors at the cinema when it came out, I remember it as cheesy nonsense.

Also in the realm of cheesy nonsense is Checkpoint (1956)... starts with a heist gone wrong, then we're in the exciting world of motor racing, and a killer in hiding, and a corrupt bloke with a beard and lots of money, and a couple blonde ladies in big frocks. After a fight by a car on a cliff, the baddie dies and all is well in the Warld. Wanderful! 3/10

I watched Havoc and thought it was ok, worth a watch. Hardy plays to type pretty much as the tough no nonsense hard man.
He's way better in Mobland on TV currently but Havoc is decent enough for a post beer movie

Conclave. Superb, Beautifully filmed - a phrase came to mind as I watched - "This guy paints with a camera". The scenes are wonderfully composed and filled with meaning without a word being said. Incredibly relevant to the world today, the denoument is thought provoking to say the least.

I really enjoyed it too.

For the little screen time she had, Isabella Rossellini was excellent.
