The Magnificent Seven (2016 film)
Generally I don't like re-makes/re-boots as there are so many good books why not try something new and interesting. There are exceptions eg Dune where the story is so complex that it allows for many very different interpretations and focus on different aspects so different films are totally different films.

But the 2016 Magnificent Seven is pretty much identical story just modern production. Lot of well known actors.

I had low expectations but was pleasantly surprised. I won't be re-watching, won't be recommending it to others but OK for an evening when you've got to the end of a book and not ready to start next.

Haha. I saw the Seven Sumerai this afternoon.

The new dinosaur movie. Another cracking yarn. Lots of "borrowed" stuff even from Jaws!

Black Mass.

Not sure what all the fuss was about. Johnny Depp was very menacing as Whitey Bulger, but the whole tone and style made it a kind of Donnie Brasco mk2.

Not bad, but not outstanding either.

6/10.

Hercules in New York (1970)

Arnie's screen debut I believe, where he's credited as Arnold Strong, and hilariously dubbed due to his thick accent.

Not really his finest hour, but entertaining in a so bad it's good kind of way. 😂

I watched this the other night. We had watched a For a few dollars more and it was the next film on Amazon and free. I thought it was ok as well.

Alien in New York. Mysterious, enigmatic with lots of high quality actoring by Kevin Spacey and Jeff Bridges.

Good fillum. Great plot, quite sad when it all unravels.

Brilliant film with so many different aspects. Very thought provoking.

One minor scene I thought amusing and seems to have stuck in my memory was Prot's demonstration of faster than light travel.

World Trade Centre.

The best actor in the entire fillum is Nicholas Cage's moustache.

I know it's the tragic true story of some coppers that got trapped in the collapsing building, but why did it have to be so laboured? Even the delightful Maggie Gyllenhaal couldn't save it for me.

3/10. Best avoided, unless you like films about moustaches.

I’m not long back from seeing The Phoenician Scheme.
Great names on the bill; Hanks, Dafoe, Cranston, Cumberbatch.

All I can say is, WTF did I just watch?!

4/10

I enjoyed it somewhat more than that and glad I went but it isn't his best and does drag a little

"wtf did I just watch?" applies to all Wes's movies which are by and large very enjoyable

Sisu. Low budget, Rambo-esq romp with some stunning scenery and little in the way of dialogue. I think we wait until the end of the film to hear our protagonist’s longest sentence. Still, gets the job done.
