George and the Dragon. A enjoyable, light hearted romp through Medieval times, but don’t base your dissertation on it.
Notable for the appearance of Bill Oddie.

Drivel ... but actually really fun. Bit like a Guy Richie film (but it isn't). Pure adventure fun, no thought involved.

Whilst the final end is predictable it isn't really much of an aspect in the film and what's coming next isn't so predictable. I enjoyed it.

We watched that too. Very silly but not too bad. It would actually have made a half decent action film without the dumb comedy, but it filled half an evening anyway

To say the film is immense is an understatement. The camera work, the filming and the noise of (inside) the cars, the races and crashes are incredible. Really gives you a tiny sense of what it must be like in one of the cars. Very well made. OK, the story is completely bonkers, unbelievable and unrealistic and as a F1 fan you could pick a 1001 holes in it but I loved it. As someone previously said, Rocky in all but name.

We're just back from seeing that, although not in IMAX mode. Still, the filming was very impressive and engaging. Story is bonkers, as well as predictable, but enjoyable nonetheless.

6.5/10

What an absolute pile of carp, save yourself the bother, it got turned off half way through, the director & script writer should be sued for making Joaquin Phoenix & Lady Ga Ga act this complete turkey out

It was the same team who did Joker...

Only the Brave.

Josh Brolin is a senior firefighter sporting a magnificent horseshoe moustache.

It's the true story of a wildfire firefighting squad that got wiped out all bar one man.

Jeff Bridges plays the fire chief and an ensemble cast pops up throughout.

At times as corny as it is sobering, but reasonably watchable.

6.75/10.

Our son is insisting on watching star wars movies. Tonight was episode two, only made it about one third of the way before he wanted to go to sleep.

Are the wooden performances done on purpose? How was this not a direct to VHS thing?

The short answer is George Lucas insisted on lots of political dialogue, a drawn out love story and not enough space wizards with laser swords.

Also Ep 2 (Clone Wars) finishes strongly with a great big battle, but it's so slow to get there.

Also I don't like sand;)

But the acting is so awful and the political dialogue so vacuous that the whole thing is risible.

The Magnificent Seven (2016 film)
Generally I don't like re-makes/re-boots as there are so many good books why not try something new and interesting. There are exceptions eg Dune where the story is so complex that it allows for many very different interpretations and focus on different aspects so different films are totally different films.

But the 2016 Magnificent Seven is pretty much identical story just modern production. Lot of well known actors.

I had low expectations but was pleasantly surprised. I won't be re-watching, won't be recommending it to others but OK for an evening when you've got to the end of a book and not ready to start next.
