Hysteria - 6/10

WIthout the stellar cast this would be absolutely terrible, and even then it veers wildly from childish tittering about sex to fairly heavyweight social and feminist commentary. So while I enjoyed it, it was just a bit all over the place.

Sisu. Finnish turbo-Rambo takes on the retreating Nazis after they discover his gold and pick a fight. Cue an hour and a half of uncommonly real-feeling ultraviolence, albeit with the occasional massive hilarious dollop of the literally unbelievable. Think Tarantino, but turned up to 11 - and better. An absolute belter of the genre, and now on Netflix. Incoming!

I watched a few months back. Was almost believeable at first but then got a bit too outlandish. Worth a watch though.

“Bills. Big ones, please”. A nice polite man, I thought.

The first part of the film was of course far fetched (it's the movies after all) but made sense in a way but by the end it got a bit like he was indestructible.

City of Life and Death. Harrowing film about the Japanese rape of Nanking in 1938. Hard watching at times.

Better still, do the walk. This is a good read too, if you enjoyed the book/film.

Most of it's only a short walk from the nearest road, but it makes you realise how little the average motorist walks, because you hardly see a soul in between the tourist beaches.

Bit on the news about it recently about how there are legal wranglings about the authenticity of the book, best regard it as fiction from what I remember but that doesn't alter the contents.

There's no flab in that summary. Good work.

Dangerous Animals - 7/10

It's hard to do a shark movie well (any "creature feature" is difficult really and the bad definitely outweigh the good) but this is probably the best effort since The Shallows.

Unhinging on the breakdown of a serial killer who has his routine interrupted it's cleverly done with B movie sensibilities and a good mix of suspense and humour, along with the inevitable Jaws tropes. There are a couple of laughably stupid bits which spoil things but otherwise it's an enjoyable effort.
