What film did you watch last night?

Better still, do the walk. This is a good read too, if you enjoyed the book/film.

Most of it's only a short walk from the nearest road, but it makes you realise how little the average motorist walks, because you hardly see a soul in between the tourist beaches.

Bit on the news about it recently about how there are legal wranglings about the authenticity of the book, best regard it as fiction from what I remember but that doesn't alter the contents.

Sisu. Finnish turbo-Rambo takes on the retreating Nazis after they discover his gold and pick a fight. Cue an hour and a half of uncommonly real-feeling ultraviolence, albeit with the occasional massive hilarious dollop of the literally unbelievable. Think Tarantino, but turned up to 11 - and better. An absolute belter of the genre, and now on Netflix. Incoming!

There's no flab in that summary. Good work.

Dangerous Animals - 7/10

It's hard to do a shark movie well (any "creature feature" is difficult really and the bad definitely outweigh the good) but this is probably the best effort since The Shallows.

Unhinging on the breakdown of a serial killer who has his routine interrupted it's cleverly done with B movie sensibilities and a good mix of suspense and humour, along with the inevitable Jaws tropes. There are a couple of laughably stupid bits which spoil things but otherwise it's an enjoyable effort.

Terrifier 3 - 8/10

The strongest of the 3 so far, even if it does get a bit Evil Dead (but then when you get demons involved, most things do whether the writer admits it or not).

Christmas is the season which is gleefully destroyed by Art and Victoria, building from where 2 left off and giving modern horror fans a rare treat: a coherent slasher series! There hasn't been a decent/original one for far too long: I believe the Damien Leone has 5 planned, then that'll be that for this storyline.

He's been clever in holding the rights to his creation and resisting big studio involvement, which has badly f*cked pretty much every series that has gone before.

Final Destination: Bloodlines (2025).

Absolutely loved it. If you've seen the others, you'll not be disappointed. It manages to be a prequel and a sequel all in one. The deaths are even more impressive and more graphic. Me and my son both thought this was the best yet.

Famous cast. Made well enough. Overall OK. Pretty predictable and thus pretty unexciting. Uninspired. But it mostly held my attention.

Massive banger.
Hadn't read the book, but N had and really enjoyed this adaptation.
It's got a weird fairy-tale feel in some ways, despite having lots of adult themes. Don't watch unless you like swamps! I'm sure it's not for everyone.
(Scores several extra points for having more boat trips than cars, and no phone calls. Not even text messages ♥️)

N.b. if you complain that a film wasn't enough like a book, I will hire Liam Neeson and hunt you down.

Good cast, OK acting, well enough filmed. Very predictable, all very obvious, very "me too" (going through the motions). Stuck at it and watched to the end but not very inspiring, not really worth the time.

The Evil Dead

Never seen it before, and never really wanted to, but rummaging through Prime I decided to give it a go.

Usually in this type of film when a monster/demon/etc makes an appearance the kids steam straight into action as if it's something that happens everyday, rather than go straight into shock and freeze, so it was a bit of a surprise to see that happen this time.

A decent film and I can see why it was lauded when it first came out.

7/10.
