Sin City 2

Not a patch on Sin City but that still leaves it well clear of the usual dross

The Foreigner.

Not your usual Jackie Chan fare, although there is a bit of that in it.

Its quite a good thriller whereby the IRA upset chan, a guerilla warfare expert who'd fought against the Khmer Rouge.

A bit of slapping, a lot of blowing up, some torture, and a reasonable plot with enough parallel threads and twists to keep on interested.

A surprising 7/10.

Jackie versus Pierce Brosnan as a thinly veiled version of Gerry Adams, brilliant film.

I didn't know they were in it. That's put me off a bit to be honest because I find them both incredibly irritating.

They've been the 'unique selling points' since the movie was announced a few years back... it put me off too as like you, they irritate the hell out of me. The scenes they're in would have been better without them and they've tarnished an otherwise decent sequel (IMO).

To be honest I'd only recently found out about it and my first reaction was,

"What? Why?"

I'll end up watching it and try to forget the scenes with those wazzocks.

Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale 4/10

My wife's choice and it was a bit flat. There was too much bowing and scraping in it for my liking (as there always has been) and it was fairly flat. No real drama or story, only a wrapping up of various threads in the storyline. And, of course, it was nothing without Maggie Smith.

Naked Gun. Good try but it has 3 fundamental issues: the original, 2 and a half, and 33 and a third are all funnier.
I tried watching this last night for the second time. Couldn't get more than about 15 minutes in. The OJ Simpson reference did raise a kind of half-smile half-grimace. It's a shame, because I want to like any film with Liam Neeson in it. The bit about Drebbin Jr's character losing his wife didn't really help matters, considering. It just made me think of poor Natasha Richardson.

Re-watched Training Day last night.

It's all a bit far fetched but the performance from Denzel is the absolute definition of powerhouse. So many recognisable faces in the minor roles.

Watched The Old Guard and The Old Guard 2 a few days ago (on different evenings).

A bit daft, rather short on story, given premise rather obvious, etc. but also "fun", mindless action adventure without provoking any thought.

Not something I could recommend or not as much down to taste and mood.
