What film did you watch last night?

I thought it was OK but very predictable and formulaic. Pitt though as charismatic as ever and no I'm not being sarcastic!

I thought it was sheet.

Brad Pitt makes a decent fist of it, but there's only so much he can do with such weak material.

Dubious premise that's been done before (Stallone's appalling Driven), technically woeful script, shallow characterisation. The only redeeming feature was the visually stunning track scenes.

Frankenheimer has been there 50 years ago and F1 can't hold a candle to that.

Another entertaining romp, but seemed a little lacking in Bon Mots compared to previous eps. I actually quite liked the SF-ish "Entity" plot-line, it created some interesting ideas, but they were probably wise to make the film too fast-paced for viewers to think too hard about it!

We watched the "final" MI film - Dead Reckoning Part II - over Christmas, and it was really rather dull ( as I think Cyclechat broadly agrees):
... rewatched 20mins of Part One last night - soooo much better! It's still not the best of the franchise, but Benji gets great lines again, and the hand-cuffed car-chase is an absolute scream!

Starring the gorgeous Jennifer Lawrence and the equally gorgeous Robert Pattinson...
Tough to watch in a lot of ways,great performance by Lawrence who plays a woman having a meltdown.Did I like it...yea I think I did but in a uncomfortable way.

I'm going to have a rare visit to the cinema for this. I liked the way that 28 Years introduced the idea of the rage creatures becoming a self aware race seperate to human beings - something another film The Girl With All The Gifts looks at as well and I like the idea of. Also I really want to get the 3rd film so they can have my money!

I don't think you'll be disappointed.

I won't start a separate thread about the Oscars but Sinners has had 16 Oscar nominations, the most of any film ever which stunned me to be honest as I thought it was pretty average at best. A real mish mash and not in a good way.

Weapons - 9/10

Annoyingly I missed this at the cinema, but I'm glad I managed to avoid anything beyond the advert, which thankfully gives nothing away. That said it could have gone in any number of directions until it settles, and although it's nothing new it's seriously well done.

A chilling atmosphere, killer soundtrack and excellent performances all round. Horror is in great shape right now, which is always a good thing.

Weapons. Totally not what I expected but quite good.

I also missed Weapons at the cinema which upon watching last night, was a big mistake as it was a thoroughly enjoyable movie. Also not what I expected. How creepy was the running style?
And how good was Amy Madigan as Gladys? All her awards nominations and wins are certainly deserved.

It is/was rated as an 18 but I do think it was 15 at most where compared to 28 Years Later which was a 15 and had similar amount of gore and blood.

On the running style - Cregger said it was inspired by the "Napalm Girl" picture from Vietnam. Or at least, that was a subconscious reason for it.

Finished 'The Grand Budapest Hotel', a delightlful film full of all sorts of emotions and superbly filmed, then made a start on 'This Happy Breed'.
A bit of a contrast eh - !

Whilst we're on Anderson and the masterpiece that is The Grand Budapest Hotel....I recently rewatched Wes Anderson's The Phoenician Scheme and still couldn't warm to it !
I mean his films are never going to be bad for me but this just didn't cut it,sorry Wes ☹️

Taste in films is obviously a personal thing. I recently lent my sister 'Godspell' & 'La Grande Voudraille', a musical & a film which I particularily like.
She couldn't get on with either.

Not seen it myself as not my thing but wife and eldest went to watch Hamnet and they thought it was very dull and boring which made me even more convinced I made the right decision.
