Sham 69 with the original line up from the 70s. Great performance of high energy, raucous but tightly played proper punk rock, I guess it would be considered as being in thr "oi!" sub-genre. I never saw them back in the day, and wasn't particularly familiar with their music but recognised a few songs. The gig was packed out so they still evidently have a following. Their much more youthful support band Club Brats were also good, though sadly we only caught the tail end of their set and rather missed out.

Anyway well worth seeing if they come round your way. The venue "the fleece" in Bristol is only a half hour walk for us, and reasonably priced, so we go quite a bit. I tend to enjoy these smaller gigs far more than the bigger venues, particular from bands who weee quite big back in my youth, but are still touring (or resurrected) with a more modest following. In the big venues or stadia the sound tends to be terrible, costs are high, particularly if you stay over, and the whole thing involves a whole load of buggerment and hassle

Or bands/artists who are on the way up, come to that. I remember seeing David Gray, whose music I only knew through covers of his songs by others, at the Fleece, must have been around 2000-ish and he was a knockout.

I saw them back in the day at Rafters in Manchester. At one point Jimmy Pursey was singing up side down hanging from said rafters.

Madness at the AO Arena Manchester. Great. Crowd went a bit bonkers when they launched a load of massive balloons into the crowd, and tickertaped everyone. Great fun, as ever.

The annual Messiah at Exeter University - this was the viewpoint for when we did our off-stage trumpets in Glory To God. The young choir are spectacularly good, with individuals singing all the solos.

Stereophonics at the Arena.

Not really my thing, but my good lady's favourite band. Cracking gig, and I liked that they have live versions of their tunes, also that Kelly is effortlessly cool as a frontman.

Lots of fun that even some belligerent swaying tw*t couldn't spoil.

We saw them again, last night at Holmfirth Picturedrome

We did make the mistake of not checking times
Arrived at 18:30
Doors open; 19:30

Support band on stage; 20:00 (which included 2 members of The South!)
Main band on stage; 21:00
('stage curfew' @ 22:30)

We left at 22:00 though, as I'm on early-turns, & was up before 04:00 (yesterday & today)
We were home for 22:45, I was in bed by 22:55
