Audience demographic? I've been to some fantastic gigs but scanning the audience it's just loads and loads of old blokes looking like they're watching paint dry

That could have a lot to do with it, as there was a lot of grey hair. Although I saw them a couple of years ago at the Royal Albert Hall and it was a lot more lively with a similar crowd

Thursday night was Godflesh at the Scala (Kings Cross). An hour-long dub set then, after a half hour break, seventy five minutes of more conventional pummeling. It was splendid. Lots of grey/balding hair in audience, including mine of course, they were definitely not looking like they were watching paint dry. Tomorrow night, The Young Gods, their first time in Pompey since 1996!

Kara Grainger at Cranleigh.
My first time at a lovely venue. Kara's last gig on her short UK tour. Band consisted of Hammond and drums.
Sound was imperfect but improved greatly after the first set. Much played from her very recent cd, which is wonderful imo.
Any folk vaguely interested in the blues should check her out.
Disappointed I missed her private gig 12 days back.

Interesting lineup at the Haymarket, Basingstoke on Friday evening.

The fabulous Judie Tzuke and equally wonderful Beth Nielsen Chapman on stage together, singing BVs and harmonies to each other's songs and surrounded by fantastic musicians: Judie's long-time collaborator Chaz Thorogood and her daughter Bailey, Beth's pal Ruth Trimble and the wonderful classical/contemporary cellist Gabriella Swallow.

I saw Stone Foundation in Newport on Saturday night. They were great as usual, just not many people there. Must be hard as they put on a very enthusiastic set and still do even though the crowd is sparse. Mick Talbot on keyboards who played Live Aid ...

Went to see Govannen at Leicester Guildhall, superb acoustics in the old timber framed building and as usual the band played fantastically. Highlight for Maz was Roger Wilson taking lead violin and singing on a ceilidh version of 'Hey Joe'

There is a clip on Youtube of them at the Guildhall in November 2022 but I can't post a linky on this thing.

Bagged some Bon Jovi tickets for Wembley.
It’s September 2026 so a way off at the moment.

See you there 👍

Spotted this one in the local Reading rag

Your chance to see 'Slade' in their final tour, at a venue in Oxford. I say 'Slade', as only Dave Hill is from the original lineup.
I saw them in the early eighties at the Top Rank in Reading, and we were blessed with a snowy scene as we left the concert, in the run-up to Xmas that year - quite magical. Without Noddy, can't see how they can get anywhere near the original sound.

Not a gig as such, but went to the screening of the film 'Dreaming of You' on Saturday night in Bristol which is the story of The Coral upto and including the debut album. I love The Coral. It was followed by a Q&A with the director and two band members. Turned out I was at just behind Jeff Barrow of Portishead too.

Technically the night before last.
Utah Saints doing a banging set at Parissh in Huddersfield. Small student venue although full of Gen Xs and Millenials for this gig. Very booming bassy PA, much louder than modern ‘Health and Safety’ gigs . Lots of nostalgic rave tunes and updated re-edits. And a middle age friendly 11pm finish! I promise there are DJs somewhere in the smoke!

Adam Ant, ably supported by Toyah. Both were surprisingly spry for their ages! Ms Wilcox in particular still has spectacular vox, and really has stage presence, with good (mercifully brief) chat.

I never saw either in their heyday, so I was surprised how punky/rocky the sound was. 5 people on stage at a time, no backing singers etc! No keyboards - and of course TWO drummers - for Mr Ant. Perhaps this is mainly budget control, but it was nice to see a stripped down approach. If I had a complaint it was the house PA mixed the vocals a bit low for both acts, which they didn't deserve or need.

This was my first "nostalgia" gig i.e. seeing bands from my youth who honestly aren't really relevant these days, and it was fun. A very predictable age demographic (!), a few people dressed up in highwayman gear. It was pleasingly affordable - I'm not rushing to pay £100-upwards that Oas*s and their like command, I'd rather see 3-4 new bands locally.

8/10 👍

The last time I saw them was at a misguidedly early slot at a festival a couple years ago. Absolutely banging, and made everything else for the rest of the afternoon and evening feel tame.
