I've got a triple header coming up this week - Sprints at Foundry in Sheffield on Tuesday, Sports Team at Patterns in Brighton on Wednesday and then English Teacher at Rock City in Nottingham on Thursday.

You're gonna need a bus and road-crew!!!

Adam Ant, ably supported by Toyah. Both were surprisingly spry for their ages! Ms Wilcox in particular still has spectacular vox, and really has stage presence, with good (mercifully brief) chat.

I never saw either in their heyday, so I was surprised how punky/rocky the sound was. 5 people on stage at a time, no backing singers etc! No keyboards - and of course TWO drummers - for Mr Ant. Perhaps this is mainly budget control, but it was nice to see a stripped down approach. If I had a complaint it was the house PA mixed the vocals a bit low for both acts, which they didn't deserve or need.

This was my first "nostalgia" gig i.e. seeing bands from my youth who honestly aren't really relevant these days, and it was fun. A very predictable age demographic (!), a few people dressed up in highwayman gear. It was pleasingly affordable - I'm not rushing to pay £100-upwards that Oas*s and their like command, I'd rather see 3-4 new bands locally.

8/10 👍

I saw them last night.
I thought Toyah was excellent, resplendent with her magnificent massive mohican, very punk.

Musically Adam Ant was fine, his band definitely carried him at times, they were excellent both guitarists and drummers.
What let him down was his attempts at dancing. Sort a tentative jerky steps and twists like he was afraid of falling over or perhaps testing out his joints post hip operation.
Re comment above, they pretty much only ever were a 5 piece once "established, with a revolving string of members , not budget control, that was the sound - stripped back two drummers two guitars.

Anyway decent night out overall.

Ah, thanks - shows my ignorance, as I've only seen him on TotP etc! [although I still wonder who played the horns on Goody Two Shoes, but never mind ... :P ]

aye but Toyah is 67, has had well documented hip and spine issues and still moves way better! Lets say he's wearing his age badly, but then he has his own health challenges, mainly mental health.

Put it this way I've seen some significantly older performer move more gracefully around the stage!

Was he doing the weird sidestepping thing when you saw him?

oh yeah - all sorts of odd shimmys and spins! I just decided that it was more interesting than a guy just leaning on a mike-stand, and I hadn't paid for a dance-show :P

I think we're probably in agreement that Toyah put on a better show (although we'll have to see if she can still do it at 71 ... ). She can still really sing! I'm just grateful that these old farts can still put on a show, compared to performers of similar age charging double, triple the ticket price and can barely sing now.

Toyah isnt wearing well either. She has a giant bulldog clip holding the loose skin under the wig at rhe back of her head. When she releases the clip at night she looks like Keith Richards, but wrinklier.

Monday night; The Tallis Scholars - a Josquin des Prez mass, a couple of motets and works by Byrd and Palestrina. The advantage of these gigs is they are done by twenty paste nine: a brisk walk, get the tube home and be in bed by 11.

Was it the pangua lingua mass ? I have the tallis scholars' version of that and it is fantastic.
That said, they are the best early music group on the planet. Every time they visit Bristol I just book a ticket regardless of what they are playing
