The new turbore trainer arrived today (an Elite Avanti) so I transferred the cassette off the old Suito to the Avanti and set it up. I haven't actually done a session though as my legs need a rest after a lot of real world (411.5miles since my last rest day on the 30th March). Unless the weather turns exceptionally bad (sorry for jinxing things) I'll be in no rush to anyway.

Fixed the puncture on the commuter as well as replacing the tyre and giving the rear bearings a squirt of grease as it sounded a bit rough.

The newish chain on the Spa audax was skipping so swapped a nearly new cassette off the spare wheel, it took ages to work out why it wouldn’t fit on the freehub then I realised the old grease had glued a 3 mm spacer to the cassette! All good now.

In preparation for going camping in Newborough Forest I thought I'd better check MrsF's MTB over as its been hung up and not moved for at least two years (she'd rather ride her hybrid but we're not sure of the forest trails and I'd rather she doesn't stack it).

Got bike down, oiled chain, pumped tyres, sprayed silicone on suspension and dropper and washed the dust off. No need to pop air in the suspension or dropper.

Job jobbed. PS thats how far I had to pull the seatpost out to test ride. It normally sits at the collar for MrsF. Shame this is way too small for me, and I'm only 5' 9"

Finally got this one clean and functioning. And it still not all that clean, but getting the pigeon shoot off it was orrible.

Gear-change accuracy had begun to slip (Pardon the pun). Adjusting didn’t really help. Manual chain measuring tool showed a lot of wear. Confirmed by this:

(Well over half a link of stretch {Despite angle of the picture] on a 112 link length. *Could hear and feel play in every roller pin. Seems ‘enough’ wear to me (?). ***Perhaps 1500+ wet / gritty / Winter riding miles mostly on this chain.

Soo…….drivetrain cleaned spotlessly, new KMC X-8 chain and quick-link installed.

Just awaiting new jockey wheels; and new flavour of chain lube to arrive via Amazon and we should be back in the game…..👍

Got most of the fleet in from the man-cave on Easter Monday. And cleaned, oiled, fettled, adjusted, lubricated, inflated and generally tinkered with as required ready for Summer.

Favourite daily beater was already prepped. One was out on loan. And the next BMX I’m building is ready but up in the loft in parts. I’m saving ‘this’ genuinely special build for a special time. But not sure when that is yet 🤣

I fought the derailleur.

The setup:

• Campagnolo Veloce 10speed Ergopower
• Campagnolo Veloce front derailleur
• Shimano FC-6650 cranks
• FSA chainrings
• Wippermann Connex 9speed chain
• XLC 9speed cassette (it's a labeled Miche for Shimano type freehubs)
• 10speed Microshift rear derailleur (Shimano compatible) with shifter cable clamped like described on hubbub: https://hubbub.bike/hubbubs-original-shimergo-solution/

At least in the bike stand it works in the grey area between "meh" and "good enough".
Prior to the Microshift derailleur I tried a Sunrace RS and a Shimano 105 (RD-5701). The Sunrace can't handle the largest sprocket (28 teeth) and with the 105 derailleur I couldn't find a working adjustment. The distance between the upper pulley of the derailleur and the teeth of the sprockets is critical. The spring for the cage works in some kind contrary to the spring around the mounting bolt of the derailleur. The cage spring in the 105 derailleur can't produce enough tension, because there are just two holes for one end of the cage spring in the cage and I already changed it. So the maximum pretension of the cage spring is reached. The set screw is in the outermost position, so the minimum pretension of the whole derailleur is reached.

If the real world test shows that the shifting in the stand is the best I can get, then I'll have to build a new wheel: thru axle hub with Campagnolo compatible freehub. A Veloce derailleur is in the fund and a 10speed Veloce cassette too.

PS: The Campamano or Shimagnolo combination works fairly good on other bikes here.

A quick 2min wipe down of my chain and relube with drip wax. Given it's 4,000miles old I thought I'd better check it too.

Pre drip wax Id be lucky if I got 1500-3000 miles out of a chain

I was going to clean the bike too but I don't think I need to, pre drip wax that'd be a guaranteed task. For the sake of a 2min wipe down and relube, I'll be sticking with it. Especially as I store the bike in the house. Lol, the only downside is all the junk mail on the floor to catch the drips whilst it dries. At least it is effective recycling, except the Brexit/Farage/Racist party their junk got ripped up and thrown in the bin.
