Is it a 10 speed? If so then you can leave it until 0.75%, 11+ and best to replace at 0.5% wear.

Its an 11sp, I've not had a problem replacing it in the past at 0.75% touchwood 🤞 and its saw 38,000miles . Googling around says although some people (like me run to 0.75%) the ideal is 0.5% looks like I need a new chain checker. I already have a new chain I'll probably fit it at the weekend, more fettling fun to look forward too :-)

A puncture

Left work at just turned 20:00

Got onto Birkwood Road, & the rear started feeling a bit bouncy
By The Robin Hood, it was definately making itself known
I managed to ride as far as Lee Brigg, & then decided to walk the mile or so home

Left bike in the basement, whilst I got changed/had some food/pot of tea

It was grotty, & a good job that that basement room is tiled!!

Nothing to be found in the tyre, but it's way past its best!!!, a Marathon (DD?), if it was on a car, there'd be an immediate prohibition order on it, as there's (probably) less that 0.5mm of tread, as best seen at the point just above the tiles
(it still copes fairly well in a muddy woodland ride home)

I have some downlighters in the garage soffits that had some rust spots on, they were not designed for outdoor use. They have only been there about 12 years. Anyway, a bit of rust killer and some white metal paint. Just waiting for them to dry and I can re-fit them. I just have the front ones to do.
After that I stained a wooden step that has been in situ for some time. I had some antique pine left over from staining the garden seats. All this work all of a sudden ! Still, at least I have no grass to cut as I don`t have any. That went years ago.

A new shifter on friend's, son's bike. I was going to do the front wheel bearings too but the front through axle has been ridiculously overtightened and the hex has been rather mangled at some point so despite the best efforts of the two of us it just rounded off. An easy-out stud extractor sorted it eventually but not before the threaded part sheared off.

This is the second mangled Maxle that I've come across among the same friend group so I think the son may need to be taught about torque settings.

Edit to add: I should also have mentioned that I fitted a couple of tyres for another friend. New Marathons on an electric bike. That went well at least.

Wife couldn’t shift into big ring on her bike on Sunday. After some initial fettling with little success; I replaced the gear inner cable, and sprayed some oil in shifter mech and lubed FD mech. Forgotten how fiddly it was replacing cables on STI shifters. All my bikes are bar end friction. Anyway, success and shifting back to optimal for her planned weekend riding.

Also planned to service my cup and cone wheel bearings on my recumbent. The above took longer than planned. Will do wheel bearings tomorrow morning. Already have the new bearings and grease. Left it too long last time. Should be a lot better this time round. Well hopefully I won’t have to replace one of the cones this time!

I replaced the frame on the 45 year old fixed - again. It's now on its seventh frame. Took it for a spin to the pub yesterday evening. Just a few tweaks to saddle height and front light adjustment.
I'll cut the steerer down once I'm sure everything is right.
