No above the front mech cable boss and above the transfer 61.

That's right, it looks like at least there's damage to the paint. I meant to say seat tube, sorry for the confusion.

Big day for the Trek FX-3 Hybrid;

Old wheels out, cassette swapped over to new wheels. New DT Swiss / Hope combo wheels with lighter tyres and discs, Ti bolts etc fitted. Then messed about and got a perfect length set of Ti QR Skewers on, swapped out the old bars to some slightly wider / slightly higher rise and much lighter Nitto jobbies, and finally slapped on some Magnesium DMR V12 pedals.

Feels comparatively: very svelte now. Was originally 11.4kg and I wouldn’t be surprised if I’m now knocking on the door of or even just under 9.5kg now. Statically it’s easily noticeable….

I have a Zefal bar end mirror on my best bike. Unfortunately, it seems that it was designed for a smaller diameter than that of my handlebar. I couldn't tighten the fitting plug enough to stop the mirror coming loose on my rough local roads this evening.

When I got back, I removed the mirror and improvised a rubber shim from a length of scrap inner tube...

I refitted the mirror and it now stays in place!

I picked up this Claud Butler Majestique a couple of years ago at a car boot and it has been languishing in the garage since.
Today I replaced the stem with a longer one, fitted new brake cables and hoods and gave it a general clean followed by short spin.
If it remains in the fleet I'll probably fit a honey coloured Brooks.

Quick-is experiment today, tried using some garden twine to cover the end tape on the bars and on the cable guides on the Faran.

I'd seen this on a pic of a bike owned by the head of the Woods Cyclery although he obviously used better quality stuff!.

But I thought I'd give it a bash with the cheap stuff first.

Was a bit of a pain as it was tricky to get the cheapo twine in place especially where the thick Grepp bar tape finished, also when doing the cable guides the twine unravelled at the ends so had to re-cut it when threading it through.

Still quite happy with how it looks considering and we'll see how long it lasts :rolleyes: ,probably not long as it was ultra cheap twine from Wilko when they closed down; if all goes ok-ish I'll get some better quality twine* and take more time.

Like it. It’s cool when people think outside the box and individualise. So bland and ‘samey’ modern bikes. All black cranks, black finishing parts, black tape. It’s nice to see something ‘fresh’ and different 😉

You may like some stuff on here (apologies if you are already aware of it) ;there is some articles about the staff builds from The Woods in there and a look round the shop.

You could try Marlow ropes or similar as they have sail whipping twine, which would last well.
Then you could just do a simple whip or common whip as they call it here.
