After much anticipation: the new matching: Lever barrel adjusters arrived. And we’re duly fitted promptly today. The relief was instant - and I have no doubt this will be my best nights sleep since discovering this ‘defect’ at the weekend…….😉

Ended up a busy day in the end ,decided to strip the di2 kit off the turbo bike and ended up virtually re-building it so CX chainset and 36t chainring on and old Altus rear mech to act as a tensioner; had to rig up an old shifter to hold the mech in place as I couldn't get a decent chainline with the limit screws and the setting on the cog.All ok now though but decided to leave a trial run until it's a bit cooler.

Now have a complete Ultegra Di2 gear set spare although still need to get some old shifters as the Ultegra ones are still on the bike.

Instead I then thought I'd see what the 650 Stayer/Rene Herse wheels would play with the Stayer All-Road; I had run the wheels briefly before but had much knobblier/heavier tyres on. Front was fine but needed some 'persuasion' of the rear mudguard to give enough clearance and not look too weird, sorted now so will give it a spin poss tomorrow morning or evening.

Swapped the rear Marathon for one that l had in the garage
I guess l took the old one off, as being ‘too worn’?
It looks a lot better than the present fitting!

It might be better when the woods are muddy
When it's rained for a while, it can be like this

Then a clean of the cassette/chain/chainrings/derailleurs with diesel

Sonic degreased chain and re drip waxed.
Fitted tubeless tyre to the 2nd mother of all hard fitting Elite carbon wheels, I’ve fitted hundreds of tyres over the years but these wheels are almost impossible, finally managed by using two levers and a tyre glider.

Now have no skin on both thumbs.

Full drivetrain deep clean; and removal of old wheels:

Swapped over Cassette onto new wheels:

Thoroughly cleaned and lubricated the old wheels; and hung up for Winter use (🤷‍♂️) if required…..

I should have added the 1st wheel took 2.5 hours to get the tyre on the rim, then it wouldn’t seal so I had to take the tyre off, might have been 2 more hours, I remember at one point thinking well I’m gonna have to cut this new tyre to get it off.

Part of the flange that holds my rear light/ camera into the mount broke off. I cut some plastic from a cable tie and glued it in place to create a new section of flange- so far, so good (will see if it holds)

It didn't hold! I will try again later and try to do it better. Conceptually I think it is sound, I need a less brittle type of glue- some epoxy perhaps or a toughened cyanoacrylate.

Final fettle for the Stayer before tomorrows Audax, took off the aero bars as there won't be many dead straight roads and it'll be a bit rolling up and down.

Popped to my favourite LBS for a few ‘free’ adjustments after freshly built Mavic / Paneracer SS rubber etc were fitted by me last night. And after I’d removed mudguards and rubbish I don’t need to save a bit of heft.

And ending up cleaning up both calipers, fitting brand new cables to both ends. Along with new Sintered pads F+R with all adjustments needed. A full brake service I guess !!

(Cheap ?) Skewers were struggling) on the clamping of the new Hubs (🤷‍♂️). So we tried a few different versions in the shop - and from the depths pulled these uber rare (2008 ?) American Classics that came with a super expensive pair of wheels from that time. That did the job perfectly 👌

I’d been toying with raising the bars / stem for some time due to occasional tingles in my right hand / fingers (I SHOULD use my core muscles for support I imagine). Turns out they had one that brought the bars 3/4” back toward me and raised them up about the same. So we did the swap while at it: ready for my upcoming Dynamo ride; especially….

That was a quick £100 gone all in. Bike feels amazingly sprightly / lightweight now though. Best it ever has done in its various guises over a decade or more 👌✅👋
