What Have You Fettled Today?

In the small hours of yesterday morning I made some headway with the resurrection of old (mid '70s?) Alan Shorter frameset (using the 'Victory' groupset I bought back in 1988 when the frame came into my possession) which only narrowly survived a disaster which overtook the shed in which it was living some five or six years ago (long story);

When stripped-down I discovered that various 'bits' required a great deal of TLC and, sadly, the original toe straps which came with the 'Victory' groupset (back in 1988) were beyond saving so it now sports a pair of Christophe straps instead.
The brake cabling is now in place so all that is left to do is fit tubular tyres (on their way); re-fit chain; lube and adjust.

Has anyone here used one of these pens to do lug-lining and, if so, is there anything which might trip one up when using the thing?

Any advice will be appreciated!

Once again had to perform minor repairs on my bike box, ready for another trip to the alps. tomorrow!

After yesterday's shock slowish puncture to the front wheel 35mm Marathon Supreme, the first in ~5 years thanks to a flint that could have been slowly forced through the puncture protection belt anytime over the last ~14 months, I finally decided to swap it to the 40mm Supreme and butyl tube that was on the rear wheel until getting the 45mm Caracal Race earlier this year.

Still need to see if I have another tube of puncture patch "glue" hidden in bike bits boxes, after finding to my horror that the almost full tube was full of air and no liquid "glue" during yesterday's puncture (so lucky it was a slow one, so I could stop every ~5mins to topup air)! Thankfully, it looks like that Lidl mini saddle bag bought last month that included a torx bit on a multitool, came with a few self adhesive patches.

Fitted a new bottom bracket. The angry hamster in his wheel has gone away.

I was getting some graunching sounds from the Ribble AL Hybrid's bottom bracket. Or at least so I thought.

I swapped the MKS Sylvan Touring pedals out for some others and I couldn't reproduce the noise. I've slackened off the axle nuts on both MKS pedals just a scooch and that seems to have resolved the problem. I'd read adding an extra ball bearing to these is beneficial. Seems I'd not allowed quite enough float on reassembly having done that..

I'll be taking that bike out for another ride later this week and I'll see then how it bears up.

Sorted the rubbing on the front rotor although most of the noise was actually coming from the front mudguard rubbing.

Quick check of the Faran and Cotic for this mornings tip run and both loaded up, also popped theHope flat pedals on the Faran as it's a bit easier hopping off and on at the tip and was a good time to clean the threads out and re-apply some anti-sieze.

Does washing, de-greasing then oiling count as fettling?
After a hot & dusty few days last week, with the chain leaping off near the end (perhaps due to the crud on the chainring!), I finally found a spare hour or so to clean it 👀
Wonder if the angry hamster has left the bike at the same time. Might have to wait a week to find out: time to pack for Latitude next up!

One of my son's mates has borrowed one of my fleet, so he doesn't have to use a mountain bike on his triathlon!

He's a bit taller than me, so I whipped the bars & stem off, moved some spacers to under the stem and flipped the stem, also fitted some flat pedals. lets see how he gets on. Was his first time on drop handlebars!

I’ve just Fettled these one-touch adjustable Bottle cages out the wrapping. *(I’m sick of bottles dancing around willy-nilly). And am about to Fettle them onto my bike. Hoping I don’t have to Fettle any swear words out; from the depths of my vocabulary……

Yup. Relatively. Doesn’t quite offset the 2kg I just saved on other ‘bits’ 🤣

Definitely. If our customers got used to doing that regularly we'd not have to charge them for fixing the result of not doing it.

Had to "degrease" (wipe off the carbon fitting lubricant) the seatpost of the Eddy Merckx Strasbourg ST (aka "Ginger") on today's ride, because the seatpost keeps sliding into the seat tube and adjusted it several times during the the ride.
