Funnily enough I was just about to ask how you remove stuck seat posts, as you must have come across quite a few. I have one at the moment marinating in WD40 and rust remover, but it seems stuck fast. Any suggestions?

There’s a rabbit hole I haven’t been down in a while - and for good reason!
There’s a nice chap on the BCD YouTube channel that has investigated various methods - sort of a ‘Myth Busters’ if you will. His results? An expensive seat-post-puller machine from France might work, and if that doesn’t work, reaming it out with cheaper power tools will.
Bear in mind he was looking at -seized- posts, not -stuck- posts. How do you find out? But failing to get it out by other methods :-)
My go-to is a the seat post in a vice and turn the frame. If that doesn’t work, how much do I want the frame?

Good luck!

I can’t believe how cheap decent bikes are now, just picked this up for my son to compete in Triathlon, 2019 CF Cube with Ultegra 11 speed, paid about 15% of what it cost back in 2019. Put it on a stand yesterday checked it over and apart from some slight adjustments to the front mech, a few PSI‘s in the tyres and some lube on the chain it wants for nothing. The GP5000 tyres are brand new, even the bar tape is immaculate!

He did a 60k test ride on it last night and came back grinning from ear to ear!

Some very nice rim braked bikes out there at the moment. I have my eye on a Willier Cento Uno with super record, £1k.

The XT SPD's I won on ebay finally turned up after two weeks (combination of seller being on holiday and Evri). First job, pop the axels out, wipe, squirt fresh grease into the body, then put the axels back in. Done. Old grease just get's evacuated as you screw the axel in (old grease was still clear). They were going on the CX bike, but the existing M520's don't seem to want to come off - can't quite get enough leverage, so that's a job for another time.

I bought my Wilier Montegrappa two years ago, which at the time was a good price. I was`nt bothered with it having rim brakes. Strangely though I feel quicker on that than my carbon bike.
Yesterday I just had to adjust the RD cable, the gears have been OK for 4 months but a slight tweak and all is good again. On the aforesaid mentioned carbon bike.

Are these XT SPDs the ur-SPDs (M737)? I have a soft spot for those monsters and have four pairs. They have often been neglected and have pitted races, but the axle cartridges from the purple-and-white road A525 pedals, which absolutely no-one wants, are exactly the same and haven't normally been out in the wet.

Plenty of fettling today although not all strictly bike related.

Initially was just going to put a shelf up in the shed but that escalated to virtually clearing everything out and putting hooks up for the two ladders to go on, this was a job that has needed doing for a while.

So now with the ladders out of the way there's more space for the bikes and the extra shelf means stuff is a bit better organised.Still have far too much stuff that will never be used especially various mudguards, tyres and rims (anybody need some carbon 35mm tub rims?).

While clearing stuff out tried to see if the Diamond Back frame will fit or not as I have had thoughts of turning it in to a klunker/utility bike; think the size is ok but have found that I don't have a seat-post (26.6 possibly) and will need 26" rims , a quill stem plus a shifter means I don't know if the cost/time is worth it.

Anyway a pic with the wrong wheels (27.5 and 700c mudguards:laugh:)

Also moved the Supernova light on the All Road using a bracket bolted on to the mudguards ;should make it light up more of the road and frees some space on the bars, only issue is the high beam switch cable was only just long enough.

Seems solid enough but will give it a test ride at some point over some rough fen roads to make sure it stays put.

I have one pair of M770's and these latest are M780. I also have the XT trail pedal with the wider platform.

It's certainly a very pretty frame; couldn't it be adapted for a regular straight bar setup with Shimano gears, or are the rear stays too narrow?
