I've remembered a good one.

In the 80s some of the trains from S Wales to London were the old corridor-and-compartment type.

I shared a compartment from Newport to Paddington with George Melly. He slept most of the way and snored incredibly loudly.

We did not speak to each other.

I wonder if that was after I saw him performing at Harry Ramsdens (now a 'Spoons) in Cardiff Bay.

I lived next door to the original and only proper Harry's. Across the road from "the hospital" in Menston

I sat and watched England V Turkey football with Terry Wogan in the back of his Rolls Royce at Royal Ascot. I was on police duty.

I was Fred Truemans accounts manager at the bank. His wife Veronica and I never spoke about cricket. It drove Fred mad. We did talk a lot about Racquel Welch, who was Veronicas daughter in law.

You are a bit muddled there.
In June 1991, his daughter (from his first marriage) Rebecca married Damon Welch, the son of film actress Raquel Welch, but the marriage ended in divorce two years later.

Was that near Bristol by any chance? (I seem to remember one of my mates being in that too).

There is a strange phenomenon in that the girls who were 'phwoar' at 16 end up by 25 as looking like 'a bulldog chewing a wasp' and the gawky girls with pigtails and glasses blossom into tall leggy beauties

I'm willing to speculate that the 'plain jane' types, who couldn't get a date during their secondary school did, indeed, turn into attractive, well -rounded individuals. The 'popular' others? Not so much.

Also met John 'Nasty Nick' Altman in London a few years back. He didn't seem overly amused at being asked for a quick photo, but I think his missus had a word and he was fine after that and very nice, it must be said.

Alvin Stardust drove past us when we were kids. I think he was covering The Milk Race, which keeps it cycling related, too.
