No idea what i have spent over the years but this year 2016 my new year resolution was not to buy any bike related stuff unless i really needed it.I was doing great until june and then bought an ultegra group set and a set of hand built wheels.

I dread to think. Like my spending in general, I don't monitor

I wasn't going to spend much this year, true to my word I've only bought two bikes (they were not too expensive though  )

Less than on holidays and cars over the years though!

As a rough guesstimate from 2011 ...

Bikes x3 Total approx £2,800
Upgrades x lots approx £2k
Clothing x more than you could ever imagine approx £2k+

In the process of a cull, as my mileage & skill level can't warrant the spend.

*leisure time almost completely abandoned*.

My turntable is a bit smaller than that one, and bikes is not what it turns.

Food....don't forget the food.

I average about 300 hours cycling a year. Say that's about 600 calories per hour (it's hilly around here), that's 180,000 calories. Now, sadly, I haven't lost the equivalent of these calories which is about 50lbs of fat so I must be eating these extra calories. So how much does 180,000 calories of normal food cost? 500 calories per day

Here is the what 500 cals of food looks like

http://www.lifehack.org/articles/lifestyle/what-500-calories-really-looks-like-different-foods.html

Got to be at least a couple of quid a day to get the cals back in

Bits and bobs for the bike and some clothing etc is probably about £300 per year

No idea really, At a very rough guesstimate I would say getting on for £8-9000 over the many years of my cycling.

My current fleet probably cost around £6500 when new over the past 8 years - there have been others brought & sold as well. Add on to that clothing, parts, accessories, the Asgard shed, etc.

I balance that against the health benefits, both physical & mental to justify it.
