Bloody Arabs, coming over here with their distinctive head shape and high tail carriage.I did a Google search for horse xenophobia and TBH the results were disappointing.

Ungrateful colonials. And after we went to all that trouble to civilise them as well. Why are the English sometimes resented? It's all there in the history books.

What about the London-centric nature of the UK media? Does that entitle anyone from north of Watford (south of Gretna) to wish ill on anything south of there?I think this is partly a reaction to the anglocentric nature of our UK media rather than any dislike of individual English contestants or teams.
Not entitled to wish ill, but it could influence attitudes. What about the London-centric nature of the UK media? Does that entitle anyone from north of Watford (south of Gretna) to wish ill on anything south of there?
FTFY.
And the reasons for such an attitude, as asked in several posts? Here are a few:
1966 being wheeled out at every opportunity (and we certainly don't want THAT happening again!).
Wayne Rooney.
Chris Evans.
Your English media's constant demand/insistence that England deserve to win every competition at every sport.
Hmmm. Is this for real? Can someone be so utterly ignorant of the last 1000 years of history in these islands. Why is England in a privileged position with respect to Scotland, Ireland and Wales? We live on the same islands and suffer (pretty much) the same weather and geography. We speak (pretty much) the same language and have (Eire apart) the same flag. So I'll ask again; why do we English want Andy Murray, Rory Golfperson, Wales in the Euros or anyone/thing from the British Isles to win yet they just love to hate the English and relish English defeats and setbacks ?
http://www.mybetting.co.uk/snow-on-christmas-day.htmMy favourite, largely because it's meaningless and yet says it all, is the annual bet about whether it'll be a white Christmas. Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't that judged by snowfall in London?

We live on the same islands and suffer (pretty much) the same weather and geography.... and where is most of the good arable farmland?
We speak (pretty much) the same language.... and what did we speak in Wales Scotland and Ireland before English came to dominate?
We have the same flag.... a flag which evolved over time but is dominated by the ruddy great big red cross which is the flag of where?
et cetera
They hate us because of the way our ancestors behaved....?
Nothing. As should be clear from my quoting I wasn't trying to answer your question. Others have done that more than adequately. So in the OP I quoted somebody who was happy to see a USA citizen beaten, what has that got to do with 1,000 years or the price of potato?

Others have tried too, but I still cannot understand get my head around it. Maybe I just do not have the hatred gene inside me that others have, I wish most people well regardless of where they happened to be born, after all we have little choice in the matter.
There you go with your assumptions again. What makes you think a bit of joy at seeing an American or a Chinese athlete lose out is to do with hatred?
