First, the word you're looking for is woman.

Second, it doesn't take much searching to discover that Mara Abbott was educated at Whitman College. That gives us a pretty good idea.

Third, it's not about her personally anyway, it's about the jersey she's wearing and what that represents.

Yes, the comment that has got you so worked up was trite and undignified, but it really isn't worth the hand-wringing. And I am 100% certain that Mara Abbott isn't losing as much sleep over it as you are.

Not losing sleep here, I just thought it was a topic worth talking about.

Until you understand the concept of privilege, you're not equipped to take part in the conversation.

I am trying too, I only see the people, not where they come from.
Surely where they come from is the entire point of international competitive sport?

Do you watch with the sound turned down and imagine the athletes are naked or something? ;)

Seriously, that kind of comment is either massively naive or just not true. It's not that you have to be supporting one country or another, it's not that you have to be racist (or anti-racist), but to say that you don't see social and political facts is, well, a bit odd. And takes a special effort. The question, surely, is how we understand what we see, not trying not to see?

Yep, that's pretty much the Oxford of Eastern Washington State, or at least the Walla-Walla area.
I think I speak for most Americans when I say we like your nation a great deal. And Ireland.
Germany, not so much.

It is about not disliking a person just because of where they come from.
