It was not installed on older bicycles. It was installed on your only bike, which very much was not an old bike! I had one as well.

Cotter pins (I hated them)

When using lace up shoes when riding, I still tie my shoes with the bow offset to the outside so they lie away from the crank out of habit to avoid being caught on the (now non-existant) cotter pins

I replace the screws holding the pads in my disc brake calipers with cotter pins as the first thing I do. Those screws seem to be made of putty, and are a real pig to get undone, while it takes seconds to get the cotter pins out.

I didn't realise that what I know as split pins are also called cotter pins.
The ones I'm thinking of are those used on old style cranks

Spokey Dokeys and wheel mounted reflectors shaped like the Kellogg's logo.
Oh, and a wooden ice - lolly stick fixed to run in the spokes, making a noise like a motor bike! 😆

Also, the water bottles advertising different soft drinks, like Coke and Sprite and the big polystyrene helmets that made you look like one of the mushrooms out of Super Mario.

Flint catchers. They used to bolt onto the brake mounting screw and drag a piece of wire over the tyre supposedly to knock any stones or bits of glass away before the penetrated. You can never tell whether they ever saved a puncture or not, but they were the source of a fair bit of drag on the wheels.
