I've not read any of the books, and not sure how this series passed me by, but due to hearing about series 7 filming in my home city of Norwich, have now started watching Strike off iPlayer.

The series are differing lengths, presumably based to some degree on the length or complexity of the book being dramatised.

On the 3rd series, and really enjoying it, interesting and varied storylines and characters/actors - good chemistry/contrast between the two leads, dearly hoping it stays as a working/friendly relationship, and they/the books don't take the formulaic route:

I remember watching series 1 of this just after I watched the Bridge and it really wasn't a fair comparison. Strike just seemed so slow paced and baggy. I've liked Holliday Grainger in other stuff I've seen her in and if they've gone on for 7 series there must be something in it (although there are 5 series of Mrs Brown's Boys).

It's most definitely NOT fast paced, and due to his fictional missing lower leg, neither is he, which is a bit frustrating, and basically everyone can run away from him!
I found it quite atmospheric, and it's generally shot in a specific part of London, where the office is meant to be, but it feels quite, I'm not sure if cosy is the right word, but it has a certain something about it.

Quite a few well known actors in it so far, including Super Hans from Peepshow if that rings any bells.

As far as I'm aware, it's the first thing I have seen Grainger in - but agreed, class actor for sure.

I'm not sure it is fair to compare mrs brown's boys with anything other than route canal work with no anaesthetic.
Shocked to hear it was 5 series - hopefully very dead in the water now?

I loved the Bridge as well for what it's worth, I feared for it when the lead male actor changed, but potentially, after a bit of a settling in period, it even improved I thought.

Very late to the party as usual, I’ve started watching Peaky Blinders, just series one so far. It’s completely captivating but one thing puzzles me, does anyone in Birmingham recognise this as a ‘thing’ ? My late dad was brought up in the 20’s & 30’s and me in the 60’s & 70’s both just a few miles from Small Heath where all this was supposed to have happened and other than recognising the BSA name there’s not a single thing in it that resonates. Was this ever part of Birmingham culture or is the whole thing just an invention ?

You'll find most of the interior scenes were filmed inside Braimes Pressings in Leeds
