Lavazza Qualita Rossa, beans. Sainsbury 5* Espresso is ok, as is Percol 5 strength. All of those according to mood, ground fresh and made into double espresso via a De longhi 15 bar machine. I like it in doubles, 2 scoops beans to a 60ml shot, occasionally machiato.

Illy I found to be nothing special given that it costs double what Qualita Rossa costs, and you see Lavazza on special offer more than any other coffee I reckon.
For thermos purposes a Bialetti Stovetop 6 cup in a small thermos with boiling milk.

Gold Blend for me. Always used to be Maxwell House until it became harder to get. Not exactly 'proper' coffee but keeps me going

Where do you find the offers?

I've never seen it on offer near me, just got some Illy Espresso cheaper than usual though, and like most people seem to be saying it's nothing special.

When it comes to shop bought you can't beat a Costa double espresso, and surprisingly Greggs espresso isn't far behind it.

yeah, I found that. The Lavazza is OK. Tesco do a finest coffee bean range which is worth a go.

I've seen Lvazza on BoGoF or similar at Sainsburys

What happened to 'Coffee boiled is coffee spoiled'? Stove-top percolators went right out of favour at one time, and there was even an optimum point after the kettle boiled at which one was meant to fill the cafetiere in order not to shock the poor tender coffee too much.
By stove-top machine, people mean one of these :-

an espresso machine which doesn't boil the coffee, just the water.

On the very rare occasions I have coffee then Nescafe does the trick.

In my youth I used to drink instant coffee from a pint mug, several times a day. Virtually never touch the stuff now, but I do have a lower heart rate and sleep better at night.

It is still the case - percolators evaporating water off is I think the problem of ongoing heating.
If you have a cafetiere type method
1) avoid boiling out oxygen from the water as better oxygenated water helps release flavours - like with wine
2) coffee burns at 100 degrees and goes bitter, particularly Arabica beans that tend to have wider flavours, so even if you warmed the coffee slowly to a high temp, it would spoil. Stove-top/Espresso coffee tends to be made from Robusta beans that are more suited to the high pressure steam.
