Don't forget that there is about £2.20 of tax on a bottle of wine.
I tend to see what "bargains" there are, always red.
Do make my own fruit wine, although I'm some way off being self-sufficient.

Many of the BOGOF wines in the supermarket are well known in the trade as being correctly priced at the lower price point, but deliberately sold temporarily at the hight point. Hardy's Crest it the most infamous.

Best deals are the Waitrose and Sainsbugs 25% off all wines offers. I got a case of Musar 2005@ £20 less 25% less 5% case discount 1% cash back for using a JL card.

I like Hardy's Crest, but never buy it at the 'non offer' price. I'm an Aussie red fan. McGuigans is another as is Jacobs Creek ! Buy on offer.

I'll also say the Aldi wines are good too. Their £3.99 Aussi red is surprisingly nice

fact! Even if I had the means to pay more, I'm not sure I would, although perhaps if I got a taste of the good stuff I'd quickly change my mind. I prefer beer anyway.

I used to drink cheap supermarket Aussie shiraz, then i wen on a local adult ed evening wine tasting course..... once you eyes are opened to the better quality available for not much more, there is no going back..

One big advantage, is that the bigger and heavier the wine the less one drinks... cost is the same in total

Aussie reds seem to give my wife a hangover very easily. Even one large glass.

We go to France most years on holiday & bring back about 50 bottles, mainly reds. Last year I upped the budget to 6 euros per bottle and had a bootful of Haut Medoc, Bordeaux, Lesser St Emilions and suchlike, with the odd Macon & Burgundy thrown in for variety. Some of the generic 3 euro wines are quite quaffable.

We'll top up with Italian reds or Rioja until August when it's time for another trip to France.

I only drink non-alcoholic wine, me. But since it's flavourless and bland, I pour half a bottle of vodka in it before I drink it.

I've recently discovered Lebanese reds (as opposed to Lebanese black which is something entirely different, I'm led to believe). Delicious, complex wines from one of the oldest wine produces in the world.
