Myself and my wife, volunteer for the tree planting on Exmoor. Love the thought that the resultant woodland will, hopefully, be there for generations to come, and long after we've finally cycled off ......

A great thing to do - well done!

I have done that many times in my life and to go back to those trees is so rewarding. One hybrid poplar i planted took over a large garden and had to be felled. pleased me greatly. And the tree surgeon who got to take it down. ^_^

I have signed up to help at a local Hospice, working as I will, in one of their charity shops.
I have to visit the hospice tomorrow for an informal interview.

I am also going to volunteer at a local charity shop that sells furniture and probably at the Beatson (Cancer care in Glasgow).

I need to get out the house and actually start being human again!

Reminds me - need to start thinking about checking all is well with my application to do IT help with Age Concern

it has been a while since I started applying - more trouble then getting a job!

…..it’s certainly more time consuming / a slower process. Despite ‘advertising’ - no-one actually seems in any rush for free labour.

*Nothing good happens quickly ?

Yes I find that and it feels very odd. Also getting anyone to use your specialist skills seems harder still. I am certain some of it is ageist.

Well - I have been waiting for Age Concern to get back in contact about me volunteering for them

it has been quite a while and I was starting to wonder if I should chase it up
but yesterday I got an email from them
very apologetic as it seems someone has accidentally missed out some details when submitting the DBS check
and hence it was stuck awaiting information - or something

anyway - very nice email and it all seems sorted now and and the DBS is registered and on its way through
always a bit worrying just in case something goes wrong - even though there should be nothing

I do remember the bloke I knew a while ago who got a very serious sexual offence wrongly "allocated" to him on one

His wife was the person in the counsil who received the checks - and happened to open the check saying her husband had done this terrible thing!!!

apparently it should never happen nowadays

but .......
