I think it was an Austin 1100. Aged 6 or 7. I sat on my dad's knee - he worked the pedals, and I steered.

And I learned to drive in a Morris Marina. God it was grim. You could see the road between your feet where the bodywork had rusted away.

Ford Escort as that's what i learnt to drive in. My first owned car was a Nissan Bluebird which i brought from an old fella for 500 quid. It had 61000 miles on the clock and even had a box of kleenex tissues on the parcel shelf. It wasn't the obvious choice for an 18 year old. One mate had an old micra another had a fiesta, me, im a bit different... I did sit on my uncles lap once in his Mk1 Cavalier as a lad, i had control of the wheel for a short period. People's idea of safety was a bit different back then...

A 1965 Peugeot 404. We were going to my uncle's farm when my father just pulled over and said:" I think the time has come for you to learn to drive.". That was in France of course, I was 17 and the legal age to learn to drive was 18 and still is. No provisional licence of course .

When I was about 13 my grandad used to let me drive his car on the beach in Brean - that was a Peugeot 309. Around the same time my dad took me to a nearby abandoned airfield and taught me to drive in my mum’s Fiat 126.

My Dad's Ford V4 Corsair 2000E at around 12, used to reverse it down the drive & into the garage, you'd only got 2 inches either side & had to wait until the door mirror was in line with the fall pipe before putting on 1/4 turn of right lock to get the back to kick over to go down the slope.

A Ford Prefect van (stock photo, not my dad's actual vehicle). It was along the service road behind his ironmongery shop on Lee High Road, Lewisham, next door to Young Cycles!!

I learned to drive, officially, and pass my test at 17 in a Hillman Minx.

From about the age of 11 ish, 1963 when my parents first owned a car, I used to change gear and put the indicators on & off from the passenger seat.

Massey Ferguson 135 when I was about 10. Grandad's MkV Cortina in the field was the first car. Yamaha TY175 was my first bike. I was 24 before I had driven my first minibus and forklift, both in Australia backpacking. I still love the old Masseys and would like a Cortina one day, but I think that is just nostalgia
