What would you do at this junction?

I'm plotting a route for tomorrow and want to go straight over at this junction towards Brent Knoll, but the road signs say that I have to go left down the A38 to the roundabout to make a U turn and only proceed once I've come back up the road.

On Google Street View

Am I missing something helpful for cyclists or should I go the tedious route through Highbridge and then the dreaded Burnham, which will be full of holiday camp visitors?

Google Street View shows a group of cyclists riding straight over the junction from the north, so you should be fine.
Blimey- i knew Google Streetview was useful, but that's pretty neat!!

Aha- sorry yes not paying attention again. Put it down to a long week! I'd still go for it looking at the picture though. Use the red bits as long as they're not full of crap. Nice and slow should do it. Any motons give you grief tell them to shove it.

That's what I was thinking but the road layout is so stupid that I'm sure I'm missing a trick.

Must admit if it was really busy I might walk my bike across on the grass but I do really hate doing that. You are right though, what a daft bit of road.

I would either walk across or divert down to the road below where it says The Elms (via Dutch Court Farm), assuming that road leads back round to where you want to go, as the added benefit of extending the route.

Only when going up very steep hills!

The diversion is my plan B, but thanks to the nature of the Levels and Moors, it involves the towns of Highbridge and Burham, with the delights of holiday camp traffic on exceedingly narrow roads.

I am perfectly capable of cycling past cake shops, thank you very much. (Yes, even when they're open.)

I'd ride across on the red bits or walk across, depending how busy it is and how full of debris the red is.

I think in practice I used to ride through Burnham. But not on a summer Saturday TYVM.

Get off and walk/run a few yards. In any case, it's probably safer if it's a busy or fast A road.
