WTF is a 'TdF pace'..??

I was not sure of that so I googled Wiggo's which was an average of 24mph over the 3 weeks. When racing time trials up to 50 miles my speeds were around that. For sure I could not have done them 3 times as long and day after day.

I'm assuming this is accurate

25-28mph on the flat
21-25mph on the mountains

WTF is a 'TdF pace'..??

In a group, those speeds are relatively straightforward, if you have the fitness. Much more difficult on your own, unless you are on a TT bike. A local 3/4 circuit race could average 24-26mph, so the speeds are not massively different. The distances are though.

That's what I'm getting at. I can do that pace(flat) on my own but not for long. curious as to how long anyone can manage it.

What, 28mph fir a couple of minutes?

Bear in mind those are 'average' speeds. It is not a constant 28mph and it also includes rolling out, sprints, breakaways, descents. The time actually spent riding at a steady 28mph is probably very little.

But like I say, if you can hold 28mph for two minutes then your fitness is obviously at a very good level. Either that, or your numbers are wrong.

Fixed wheel fanatic.
Riding in a group is so much easier. While hitting big numbers is ok and is do-able in short blasts even for relatively untrained riders, but doing it for three weeks over that sort of terrain?

The fastest I have ever achieved over 100 miles is 18.3 mph average.

At times we were riding at 27mph, for a good time...(I have photographic proof!)

But that was a couple of years ago and I was in good shape. Now days, I can cruise at 20 and peak 25 for a few minutes...but average about 16mph.

I did 25 mph for about 30 seconds on the flat, this lunch time. Felt amazing, until I died.

In practical terms it would be foolhardy to go that fast on an open road. On a closed road with a good surface and in a group would immediately up my speed to around 25 kph

I see what you did there
