Usually I decide driving would be better, then I remember I can't drive and get the train instead.

For me, the weather is the most important.

Welcome to Cycle Chat. Where in LA are you? Regular visitor to your city here. Mainly in Simi Valley & Playa Vista Westside, taking in regular visits to Ye Olde Kings Head in Santa Monica for the footy (Soccer).

For you the weather is either, warm, very warn, hot or very hot right? :okay:
I've never cycled in LA or California but would so love to. I do own a LA Wheelmen cycle jersey which I got a while back.

Time, changing facilities and if I've left a change of clothes there to change into.

A two hour ride is a good distance for me, but I'm constrained with dad duties in the morning so I can't.

By a big margin, time.
Followed by stuff to take, who's coming, weather, stuff like that.

But suppose I'm going alone and don't have to take much with me. Then it's nearly always time.

Just looking for somewhere to go and stay at the weekend.

Apart from where we are going the main consideration is can we store the bikes securely.

99.99% of the time it's not even a consideration, I drive. This is Houston which means nowhere to lock your bike up if you do ride to the shops/bars/restaurants/banks/whatever. One caveat, my local grocery store has bike parking for two bikes (if you don't mind parking your bike in the smoking area) and spaces for about 400 cars.

And car or bike are really the only options as the bus system is useless and the train even worse (if something can be worse than useless).

You need to move to Austin.

Good god no, great place to visit for when the music festivals are on, but generally a homogenous white boy hipster town with crap restaurants. They do have some good MTB trails in and around town and at least some hills, but i can be up to and back from Austin in a day. Ride the trails and be back home for a decent meal before the sun goes down.

Sometimes I think we're pretty rubbish having only about 40 bike spaces for every 100 car spaces (and 40 well-spaced bike shopper spaces take about the area of 5 car spaces), then I read shoot like that... :grr:
