Proper Flu while I was skiing in Italy - Bed ridden for about 10 days.

Food poisoning while in Oman after eating some dodgy goat. Almost every 30 minutes on the dot for 18 hours or so I would throw up extensively.....and slightly less frequently the other end

OK, day to day illness, proper flu back in 1990.

More recently brain surgery has knocked me a bit for six, I can tell you that!

Went for a slap up curry in Wolverhampton one night a few years ago - had a Chicken Phall with all the trimmings, including :-
Blastocystis Hominis, Campylobacter, Cholera, Staphylococcus, Salmonella, Cryptosporidium, and a free side of Gastro-Enteritis (I think that was all of them  ).

Six months off work, half a ton of pills, 5 stone lighter, and a couple of bowel ops later, and everything is kinda back to normal!

There are some major illnesses on here!!

Biggest thing was open heart surgery when i was 3 closing up a hole and fixing a leaky aorta (or not, as the case may be). But the illest I remember being was with strep throat about 6 years ago. Golly that was bad.

Ask me again in November after childbirth

I'm unlikely to trump some of those! But gastroenteritis and an abscess in my jaw at the same time wasn't too much fun.....

I suppose the worst thing that happened to me was that I had a rare congenital deformity which meant I lost the use of my arms for 5 - 6 years between the ages of 18 - 25 (it took them that long to diagnose and treat it). I was in pain for 95% of the time, had no grip or strength in my arms and hands, and it pretty much scuppered all of my career plans, ambitions and hobbies, and changed the course of my life permanently. I often wonder what would have happened to me had it not been for that.[/quote]

God, that sounds awful Kirstie. Did they ever come up with a diagnosis amd are you OK now?

PS I don't want to pressurise you into saying what the diagnosis was - just as long as you're better now

Winter vomiting bug (vomiting and liquid pooxx() for 48 hours. My wife had it at the same time and with one toilet in the house it was 'interesting'

When I had to rest 3 times climbing back up the stairs I knew it was bad

Rubbish. That is one of the worst swing-dick posts I have seen on here. ;)

Google is obviously your friend.

Me and Mrs Mortirolo had 'proper' flu 10 years ago, after a week being bed bound just on fluids I went to the doctors ( usually a 2 minute walk) to get signed off, after being signed off I 'walked' home, using every available piece of street furniture, wall, fence to support me, it took me 35 minutes, when I eventually got back upstairs I really thought I was having a heart attack.

Since then when colleagues call in with 'Flu' and are off for 2 days I just laugh to myself.

I have never felt so ill in my life.

Then there was the episode of the exploding testicle whilst on holiday in Tunisia, but that's a story all of its own...

Unknown possible kidney infection as teenager resulting in a couple of weeks in hospital with nurses cooling down my temperature with wet towels and being pumped full of dye.

The worst thing was when I went back to school and one of the teachers got shirty because I hadn't been doing my homework and had difficulty in believing that I had been off school.

And err... chicken pox, I had this so bad the doctor made me stay off school for a whole month.

I once had gastro-enteristis
I had that once but given I was a baby I can't remember it.

What I can remember is having a appendicitis on ice (no its not a drink ;)) and falling for the first time and putting the skate clear through my thumb.

A few years later I developed epilepsy (not really an illness).

I always suffered from bad migraine (causing blackouts) got prescribed tablets for that which conflicted with the epilepsy tabs and made me ill.

The next year I came down with Pancreatitis (alcoholics disease and at the time I didn't even drink ). Its a quick but painful way to loose weight (I was 11.5st when I left school, 6 months later I was 9.5).

Touch wood I've had no problems (health wise anyway) for the last 12 years.
