From what I remember of rabbits, they spend the majority of their waking hours terrified that they're going to be eaten.

At least you can eat them, which surely makes them more useful than cats? Naa, I'll happily admit that as pets go, rabbits are pretty crap. Look cute and nice to stroke. However they don't actively make a nuisance of themselves and cause problems for anyone living nearby.

And that's my main issue with cats. How can a cat 'owner' talk sensibly about being a responsible pet owner when half of the time they don't even know where the thing is? Dog owners are branded irresponsible if they let their dogs run loose, and quite rightly so. How on earth did we get to a point where it is acceptable for someone to inflict their pet on neighbours with impunity? People should have the right to say 'No, I do not want cats pissing and crapping in the garden my children play in' and hold the cat owner accountable for their pet's actions. They would be able to if it were a dog and should be able to for cats as well. Cat owners are a pretty selfish bunch I think.

I know where my cat is at all times, as she's a "flat cat"; no, she's not been run over - she's always been an indoor cat and I reckon that's why she's still going at 18 and had never needed to see a vet until she was 17.

So please exclude me from the selfish cat owners list...

You could start a typical "What's the point of dogs", even what's the point of "Hybrid Bikes"....... eh.......????????????

If you have a dog, you shouldn't be out of the house 8 hours a day..simple.....dog lover here, but we are not in the house...cat's are easier to keep if you must have pets.. (kids.....)....

Quite nice animals if you are fortunate to get a well balanced one - we, fortunately, have three rather nice ones..... all tolerate the kids...the young one will let her be squeezed and stuff.....the older two run off if the kids get too 'affectionate'......... none of them will scratch or bite....

A domestic cat will never maul a person or child......a dog can.....

So, let's not start a mud fight eh........... I love all animals........our kids know how to approach all dogs/cats etc.... very beneficial for the kid's development about caring for others....

Anyone else noticed the Google ad associated with this thread:
"Stop cat diarrhea!"

Who could argue with this?

Despite having a wife who loves cats we can't have them due to allergies (mine).

I'm probably ambivalent about cats myself. They can be good company but I'm not looking forward to the cost, and the appearance, of having to pave over my front garden because every deterant has failed to prevent them messing on it to the point where I can't open the front windows of my house due to the smell.
