+1, but I have them on video in a box.

They are followed in second place by Curb Your Enthusiasm - Larry David.

Also have the four series of Blackadder on video which is just delightful and the 12 episodes
of Fawlty Towers.

How can one consider any one of the above better than the others?

But if I had to choose it would be Laurel and Hardy. Simple genius, from which, all comedy seems to have stemmed. I will never tire of watching them.

the first series when Gene Hunt bursts on to the screen "It's nearly dinnertime - I'm avin oops" - classic !

This is my favourite because I joined the fuzz at around the time the first series was set - and boy do I recognise some of the characters/scenarios !!

Brilliant series !

Firefly is good. Also have the Alien Quadrilogy (natch). Got The Invisible Man - the TV series with Vincent Ventresca. Not many people have seen it but I love it. Got the first Dark Angel boxed set, too, still in its wrapper. Black Books and Absolutely ("That's not what they say! What they say are I wonder why Gwyneth are so stupid!") are also favourites.

When the Boat Comes in - James Bolam as ex-sergeant Jack Ford just after WW1 returning home to Gallowshields on Tyneside. Fantastic story and brilliantly acted. Saw it on TV first time round and then bought the box set (24 dvds) a couple of years ago

Rumpole of the Bailey - John Mortimer creation starring Leo Mckern

Am now looking for - To serve them all my days starring John Duttine. I seem to remember that he became a master at a public school after serving in WW1.
That's the next box set on my to buy list

(Not actually watched as boxed sets, but as individual DVDs from an online DVD rental company...)

I recently finished watching The Sopranos and will watch the whole lot again in a few years time when it has faded from memory a little.

Hill Street Blues is still well worth watching though it did start to decline in quality towards the end.

I liked the early series of NYPD Blue, but kind of drifted away from it later. I'll give that another go.

I enjoyed The Shield.

I've watched the first two series of The Wire and will catch up on the rest eventually.

So far, I've only watched series 1 of The West Wing but I enjoyed that and will watch series 2 in due course.

House is great.

I don't watch these programmes on broadcast TV as I don't like the commercial breaks or waiting a week between episodes. DVD rental is ideal.

I'm looking forward to having a broadband connection which is fast enough and affordable enough to download feature length programmes in HD + surround sound in a few minutes.

I prefer quality tv box sets these days over movies - with the likes of the sopranos, the wire, etc there is so much more depth, plot and character development to them than a film could ever manage in a couple of hours. Can be really good value too at times - managed to get the complete West Wing for £40, so that would be over 150 episodes of top quality viewing...a bargain!

Favourite tv series boxset: the Wire

Favourite mini series: Band of Brothers

Favourite movie boxset: tough one...probably Before Sunrise / Before Sunset. Unfortunately the Godfather has part 3 to consider so it is only 2/3rds great!

Favourite episode from a boxset - the Pine Barrens episode of the Sopranos. Particularly love the scene with Paulie on the phone to Tony then relaying the message about the 'interior decorator' to Christopher

Were we separated as twins? You've got FAZAKERLEY the same tastes as me. (You ARE allowed to change your mind about the 13th Oct in Hebby Bridge you know. You like that TV, you'll LOVE British Sea Power, believe me!)

Here's mine! It is the only boxed set I have got. Still unwrapped and will be a classic by the time England have won again this Winter
Further complications: I don't have a DVD player, and choose not to have a telly, but things could change...I seem to be lacking something.

We'll have to get together next year Paul, by which time my financial situation will (hopefully) have improved!
