Agree! I used to race one. No power below 8000rpm, slowly increased up to 8500 when it hit real power and then dropped like a stone after 10500. Real fun in the wet ...... not.

I raced one in an F2 outfit.

The original Guzzi motor was design to power some kind of military tractor. How MG ended up adopting it I can't say.

My personal favourite is the Porsche 964 3.6 air cooled flat 6 motor, in the RS with a single piece flywheel it was perfection.

It had lovely manners, loads of low down torque and super-smooth, but once on the cam it was a completely different beast.
