I've logged ~150 miles (indoor and out) since the 2nd of January and I don't think it's enough.

In short... I got serious about cycling quite a while back. Now I'd say that I'm borderline obsessive!

See, reading that I reckon that you ARE a total obsessive loon!

OTOH I have logged over 300 miles since the start of the year and I don't think that's enough, so I guess I am one too ^_^

A little side comment about your plans for the year, if you are going to try racing, don't book any more sportives. Once you get the taste, sportives will lose appeal very quickly.

Cheers for that

I'm not planning on any more sportives, well, other than a sociable ride out that is, but ultimately I get the same thing for far less money on a Sunday morning in any case. Group rides are all well and good, but I want bigger, better, faster MORE! This year is all about building the fitness to try and bridge from enthusiastic amateur to half-capable Cat 4.

I'll know i'm getting serious when- instead of rolling up with my stuff in a courier bag- I learn to drive so I can transport my bike, spare bike, spare wheels and turbo trainer to races.

I worked out I was starting to take it seriously after buying clipless pedals and shoes for my MTB a few years ago. Then to confirm how serious I was taking it, buying my first road bike and lycra shorts.

I've only logged 348 miles so far (thankfully all out doors) but sitting here being a lazy barstewarard on a beautiful day, I don't thing I'm serious enough. I might pop out for 25miles with the club this evening if its not frosty.

Hah, this is how unserious I am - I don't even have a turbo trainer.

Puzzle game procrastinator!
You mean there are people who don't know the colour of their handlebar tape?
There are definitely people on here who haven't got any handlebar tape, or even a bike!

Exactly. With the flexibility of not being tied into a date that could be more usefully used training/resting/racing as required.

I don't mean to come across as 'all been there done that' BTW, as I only got my first road bike last May, first CX bike last September so am very much a newb at all this too.

It's still more experience than me, and you can learn things from everyone!

I do not think I am serious as I do not ride competitively. It is all subjective but if posting on cycling forums, losing your TT 10 cherry and then doing a couple more, breaking the 75 mile barrier and wanting to break 100 miles, completing a sportive but still wondering what a 600km Audax would be like, going clipless, coming in and telling your wife that it was only a short 30 odd miles today, contemplating buying the PS3 TDF Game, wanting to bling up your handlebar stem and bar ends, pondering if I want a full carbon road bike for summer, what would I use as a winter bike do I also need a tourer and a Mountain bike? is a Sram Red groupset really that expensive in the great scheme of things, wanting to watch and beginning to understand the tactics of the TDF, Giro etc, wanting a jelly belly cycling top, knowing what the colour jerseys represent in the TDF, being a member of both the CTC and a racing club, knowing how to go through and off safely in a group (theoretical and practical) and buying your first set of bib tights (longs) and overshoes for the winter and not worrying too much about how you look in them when in public makes me appear serious to others then perhaps I am but I still do not class myself as serious
