20c before longs come off, or 15c if actually racing. The old team manager used to go mad if it was cooler and shorts/short sleeves were used in training. His thinking was that you are going to sweat a bit, but can hydrate, but if you hammer your knees or have uncovered arms and cool your body that way, then it's not good. Approaching a certain age I'm glad I followed the advice, knees still working nicely, and always nice and warm. In fact as some posters will eventually realise, as you get older it's best to be a bit too warm than a bit too cold. I'm amazed at people I see out - even today at 12c in the sun, I'm in longs and there are people scooting about in summer race kit. And ALWAYS wear mitts or gloves according to temperature. Hands take a long time to heal....

If the forecast is right it'll be 3 deg (feel like 0deg) tomorrow rising to a sunny 10deg (feel like 9deg) as fog lifts. At the moment I think arm and knee warmers and after a chilly start they may come off. I tend to only start off with bare arms and legs when its around 15deg.

Never cast a clout till May is oot.
One wise looking elderly gentleman once told me that May referred to the flower rather than the month.

Quite liked this one too,

The wind at North and East
Was never good for man nor beast (or cyclist)
So never think to cast a clout
Until the month of May be out

It took a long time in warming up, my garmin recorded 0deg on my morning ride and only an average of 2.7deg but the sun came out for my afternoon ride and a max of 10 deg and an average 8.5deg. The knee warmers stayed on but the arm warmers became wrist warmers :becool:
