20c before longs come off, or 15c if actually racing. The old team manager used to go mad if it was cooler and shorts/short sleeves were used in training. His thinking was that you are going to sweat a bit, but can hydrate, but if you hammer your knees or have uncovered arms and cool your body that way, then it's not good. Approaching a certain age I'm glad I followed the advice, knees still working nicely, and always nice and warm. In fact as some posters will eventually realise, as you get older it's best to be a bit too warm than a bit too cold. I'm amazed at people I see out - even today at 12c in the sun, I'm in longs and there are people scooting about in summer race kit. And ALWAYS wear mitts or gloves according to temperature. Hands take a long time to heal....
